I just spent an hour-and-a-half transported half-way around the world to Afghanistan’s Korengal Valley. In this intimate documentary you’re shown the good, bad and ugly reality of what American soldiers stationed in the most dangerous outpost in Afghanistan went through on a day-to-day basis. This isn’t like Call of Duty, this is a surprising mix of hard labor, negotiations with locals and combat against an unseen enemy.
This movie gives you a real sense of what these young men go through both physically and mentally. The anguish and extreme emotional toll on their psyche as they work to establish a foothold and drive back the Taliban. Although the movie is peppered throughout with combat, you never really see the “enemy”, which is surprisingly similar to how these men had to fight these battles. Firing into the hillside until the incoming bullets and RPGs stopped.
